SHELBY- Mr. Charles N. Hammond, 77, of 2927 Lake Drive, died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Stephens County, Oklahoma, he was a son of the late Charles O. Hammond and Laura Nicholson Hammond. He was an accomplished mortician, who served his profession with passion for more than fifty years before retiring from Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Charles was a faithful and devoted member of Dover Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
PRECEDED BY: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Sue Hammond.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his wife, Elma Hudson Dycus Hammond, of Summit Place in Kings Mountain; a daughter, Debra Hunter of Greenville, SC; a son, Dudley “Dusty” Hammond of Louisville, KY; a stepson, Harry M. “Sonny” Dycus of Atlanta, GA; two stepdaughters, Wanda Raye Dycus Horn and husband, Richard, of Kannapolis and Patricia Faye Bragg and husband, Herschel, of Mississippi; and two grandchildren.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 14, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: A graveside service will be held at Dixie Cemetery in Healdton, Oklahoma.
BURIAL: Burial will be in Dixie Cemetery in Healdton, Oklahoma.
