George Wesley Carr

SHELBY- Mr. George Wesley Carr, 91, of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of York County, SC, he was the son of the late Laddie and Rosanna Carr. He was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church where he was a member of the Keenagers Choir, he was also a devoted husband and father. He served our country in Iwo Jima as a Marine Sharpshooter during World War II and eventually was promoted to Corporal. He was a Hospice volunteer for many years and had a love for fishing, cooking and baking for his friends and playing cards on Friday night with his wife and friends. He worked a JP Stevens where he was a supervisor.

PRECEDED: In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa Lee Lail Carr and numerous brothers and sisters.

SURVIVED: He is survived by his wife, Hazel Hughes Carr, one son by marriage; Steve McNeely and wife Laura of Conover, two daughters; Tamara Carr Dean and husband John of McDonough GA and Teresa Carr Phillips of Charlotte, NC, one daughter by marriage; Linda Blanton and husband Richard of Cherryville, NC, one grand-daughter Andrea M. Dean.

SERVICES: A funeral service will be held Saturday, 1:00 pm at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends Friday, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Shelby.

CLERGY: Rev. Jeff Brendle and Dr. Rit Varriale will be officiating.

BURIAL: Entombment will immediately follow at Cleveland Memorial Park with military honors.
