Kathryn Meloy
March 11, 1934 — November 18, 2023
Kathryn Meloy, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Saturday morning, November 18th at Matthews Health & Rehabilitation Center, Charlotte N.C. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Lena Bertoncini. She grew up in an Italian household on Staten Island , NY with three sisters, Laura Gentile, Josephine Mongiardini (her twin) and Rosann O’Keeffe.
Kathryn married Leo E. Meloy, a NYC Detective 2/19/55 and their daughter Kathleen was born 9 months later. Their second child Stephen Edward Meloy passed away in 1977 and James Edward Meloy just recently passed on 9/22/23.
Once her children were in school full time she began working for NYC Housing Authority until retirement. During this time she was caregiver for her ill Mom, Dad and Husband until they died. Leo passed away on 2/20/01.
She had three grandchildren that meant the world to her. Her first Stephan, lost his life to Leukemia at age 26. She is survived by Briana Rose 28, and James Jagger 25.
Even through hardships she remained full of life. She enjoyed dancing, singing, and loved Movies and Musicals. She loved having company and her door was always open. Celebrating holidays and every special occasion was important. She learned to travel everywhere and looked forward to it. She loved the casinos and her favorite places were Atlantic City and Las Vegas.
In 2017 Kathryn moved to Charlotte, N.C. to spend time with her daughter, and shortly after became a resident of Matthews Health and Rehab. She was there for five years with her daughter visiting daily. Her son James, sisters, brother in law, nieces, friends and last year her Granddaughter would visit often from NY, NJ and Florida.
Kathryn loved her family, lifelong friends and the Catholic Church.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:15AM, Saturday, December 16,2023, at St. Charles Catholic Church on Staten Island, NY.
