Richard Greer

November 24, 1927 — August 15, 2008

SHELBY- Mr. Richard Greer, 80, of 501 Melody Lane, died Friday, August 15, 2008 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Newport News, VA, he was a son to the late Sam T. Greer Sr. and Faye Kidd Greer. He was retired as a postal carrier in Shelby and was one of the first coaches to start little league. Mr. Greer was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to his parents, a daughter, Pam Greer Lay, and a sister, Faye McMullen preceded him in death.

SURVIVORS: Mr. Greer is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sarah Weaver Greer of the home; two sons, Richard Greer of Raleigh and Dan Greer and wife Rhonda of Shelby; one daughter, Patty Greer Barrows and husband Kenneth of Reseda, CA; three sisters, Peggy Percival of Rock Hill, SC, Anne Banta of Orlando, Fla., and Margie Ramey and husband Bobby of Rockingham; two brothers Sam Greer and wife Iris of Shelby, and Doug Greer of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Greer, Patrick Yates Greer, Samantha Ann Barrows, and Andie Nichole Barrows; and former son- in- law, Kevin Lay and wife Edie.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 17, 2008 from 6-7:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.

FUNERAL: The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Eastside Baptist Church; the body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

BURIAL: Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
