SHELBY- Mr. Thomas R. Strickland, 69, of 410 Dellinger Road, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2006 at Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton.
PERSONAL HISTORY: He was born in Gainesville, Georgia, son to the late Leonard Lyles and Margaret Elizabeth Champion Strickland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Doran Textiles. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he assisted in teaching the T.G. Howell Sunday School Class.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his wife, Shirley Kiser Strickland of the home; a son, John Strickland and his wife Sharon of Shelby; two daughters, June Bennett and her husband John Mark of Forest City, and Jill Strickland Johnson of Kings Mountain; a sister Marjorie Young and her husband Lewis of Chesnee, SC; a brother, Bobby Strickland of Grover; eight grandchildren, Hannah, Seth, and Gracie Strickland, all of Shelby, Mary Elizabeth, Meredith, and Matthew Bennett all of Forest City, and Casey and Haley Johnson of Kings Mountain.
VISITATION: Tonight (Tuesday) from 6:30 to 8:00 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
FUNERAL: Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 11:00AM at Bethel Baptist Church.
LIE-IN-STATE: 30 minutes prior to the service.
BURIAL: will follow in Sunset Cemetery with military honors by the U.S. Army.
