CHERRYVILLE- Mr. Richard “Wayne” Roberts, 61, of 128 Windy Hill Dr., went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ Oct..6th ,2010 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Iredell County, he is the son of Robert Ernest Jr. and Chancey Pennell Roberts of Shelby. He served in the Army during Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts and most recently the Bronze Star. Wayne was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where he taught the Delbert Lee memorial Sunday school class and sang in the choir. He also served as chairman of the deacon’s, treasure, and on the pastors search committee.
SURVIVED: He is survived by his loving and faithful wife Stephanie Dover Roberts of the home; son, Richie Roberts of Shelby; daughter, Hayley Roberts Beane and husband Brandon Wesley of Fort Mill; three sisters, Yvonne Lewis of Wilmington, Jenny Moser and husband Gene of Wilkesboro, Gail Stamey and husband Bob of Maiden; brother, Bob “Bobby” Roberts III and wife Ann “Bede” of Shelby; two grandsons, Tyson and Wesley Beane.
SERVICES: 2 pm Saturday, Oct. 9th at Bethel Baptist Church. His body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 Friday at Bethel Baptist Church, and other times at the home.
BURIAL: Cleveland Memorial Park
