Charlotte Hardin

March 3, 1952 — January 17, 2024

Charlotte Ann Hardin, a licensed professional counselor and beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2024 at the age of 71. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. William and Betsy Bowen; and her brother, Fredrick Bowen. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gary Benton Hardin; daughter, Cynthia (Thea) Claire Hardin; her sisters Cynthia Proveaux of Cape Coral, F.L., Melinda Curgan of Florence S.C., Elizabeth Lindler of New Bern N.C.; her brother William Bowen II (Paula) of Anderson S.C.; and many nieces and nephews she loved very much.

Charlotte was born in New Orleans, Louisiana then moved to Hartsville, South Carolina where she lived out her childhood and graduated from Hartsville High in 1970. She then went to the University of South Carolina for her undergraduate degree. She completed her education, obtaining her masters, at the University of Louisville where she founded the annual Red Barn Association Crawfish Boil in 1986. It promoted alumni and student engagement and still continues today. She met her husband, Gary, in Louisville and they were married in a small ceremony. Gary speaks lovingly about Charlottes kindness and caring. She made any situation fun, and they loved to play games like dominos and take walks in the park together, simply living life with her was a pleasure.

Throughout her career, she worked as an art therapist, family therapist and ended her career with community work and retired from Support Inc. in 2019. Charlotte was very passionate about social issues and advocating for underserved communities. She loved creative outlets like painting, ceramics, quilting, and needle point. Charlottes love for photography was evident in her many photo albums, always highlighting her perspective of her life, family, friends and many adventures but very rarely finding herself on the other side of the lens. She was adventurous and loved to travel, often taking Thea along with her.

We were blessed to share life with her, and her memory will live on through her photos, her art, and every moment that we shared with her. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM Saturday January 20, 2024 at Clay- Barnette.
