John Carpenter

SHELBY: John Arch “Dink” Carpenter, died Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Lee County, he was the son of the late Joseph Carpenter and Margie Arnold. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sue Carpenter; grandmother, May Jane Holder; step-son, Christopher Putnam; niece and nephew, Cora Jane and Robert Wayne Blackmon; brothers, Junior, Frank and Ronnie Appleman, Reece Arnold Jr.; and sister, Ruth Appleman. He is survived by his step-daughter, Patricia Morrow and her boyfriend, Bobby Brewer of Shelby; step-son, Steven Putnam; sisters, Fay Blackmon and husband Robert, Sue Leftwich, Debra Lancaster and husband Curtis, Barbara Brown and husband Terry, Trudy Jones, Christine Heflin and husband Steve; brother, Ray Carpenter; grandchildren, Michael Putnam, Elizabeth Truelove of Shelby, Bobby Truelove Jr. and wife Beth of Cherryville and Phillip Truelove and Angela Davis of Shelby; great-grandchildren, Megan, Pamela, Dustin, Madison, Noah, and Leighann Truelove, Ricky Byers Jr., Nate and Natalie Davis, Taylor Norman, Brooke McDaniel and Lindzey Pennignton; several nieces and nephews; and his special fur baby, Taz. John was a loving, caring husband, father, and brother. He loved farming, gardening and working the land. He loved helping others until his health retired him. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm, Monday, August 22, 2022 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Harold Camp officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
