Martha Smith Strickland

SHELBY, NC: Martha Smith Strickland, 86, passed away August 26,2024, surrounded by her family. Born in Cleveland County, on August 18, 1938, to the late Ernest and Pearl Smith. Martha was a member of Pleasant City Church and worked at Fiber Industries for over 25 years. She loved the outdoors, Elvis, playing Bingo, shopping and most of all spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Strickland; son, James Scott Strickland; and brother, Joe Smith. Those left behind to cherish her are her daughters, Wendy Patterson (Darrell) and Tina Ferrell (Eric); sister, Betty Biggerstaff; grandchildren, Holly Melvin (Blake), Brett Patterson (Becca), Seth Ferrell (Ashton), Lauren Jackson (Jonathan), Matthew Strickland (Savannah), and Madison Strickland; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Marburger officiating. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home. A private family burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
