SHELBY- Mrs. Alice Marie “Babe” Collins, 74, of 1442 Briar Creek Drive, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at home. A native of Rutherford county, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Irene Jackson McFarland. She was a backup foreman at Fiber and retired from PPG.
PRECEDED: In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters Leila Costner, and Lillian Ericson; and a brother Bill McFarland.
SURVIVORS: She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years Jerry Collins, of the home; two sons Mike Collins and wife Gale of Belmont, and David Collins and wife Debra of Polkville, a grandson Adam Collins of Polkville; six sisters, Frances Costner and husband Mike, Jewell Greene, Mildred Blanton, and husband Carroll, Helen Lane, Etta Barber, all of Shelby, and Opheila Underhill of Charlotte; her “adopted” family, Ruth, Austin, and Garrett Huffstetler of Shelby; and a special caregiver and friend, Evelyn Davidson “Tenie” of Shelby. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to friends and neighbors on Briar Creek Drive, the staff and doctors of Shelby Pulmonary Associates, and to Cleveland Home Health “Healthy at Home.”
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home from 12:30-2pm and other times at the home.
FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held, Sunday, August 23, 2009, 2pm, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.
INTERMENT:. Burial will immediately follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
CLERGY: Rev. Burt Sigmon will be officiating.
