SHELBY- Mrs. Alice Cornelia Benton Wilkes, 85, was called to her heavenly home, Aug. 18th, 2012 at Willow Ridge Nursing center in Rutherfordton. A native of Cherokee Co., SC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Viola Adams Benton. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved sewing for the public and working with flowers. She was a caregiver for others when needed, and a volunteer with Cleveland Hospice for over 10 years. She retired from PPG after 33 years of service. She loved her Zoar Baptist Church where she was active and visited homebound church members for many years.
PRECEDED: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Wilkes; sister, Mary Lou Atkins; and brother, Odell Benton.
SURVIVED: She is survived by her two daughters, Kathryn Grigg and husband Benny; Carolyn Everett and husband Paul; grandchildren, Brad Grigg and wife Kristy, Brett Grigg and wife Penni, and Karen Everett; great grandchildren, Lauren, Caleb, and Sydney Grigg; and many nieces and nephews; special friends, Joe Dean and Jeanette Estep, James and Rosa Williams, and Martha Wilkins.
SERVICES: Tuesday, 2pm, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home
VISITATION: The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home, and other times at the home of her daughter, Kathryn, 3235 Frank Grigg Dr., Shelby
