KINGS MOUNTAIN: Amber Cooper Blackwood, 61, died Thursday, August 18, 2022 at her home. Born in Greensboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late David E. Cooper Jr. and Shirley Temple Riggan Cooper. Amber worked as an Art Teacher, mostly at Kings Mountain High School, and was a member of the National Educators Association and Teal Diva. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Tommy Tate Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Scott D. Blackwood of the home; daughters, Samantha Tate and partner, Luiz Nascimento of Myrtle Beach and Catherine Tate of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Alex, Dylan and Aurora Nascimento of Myrtle Beach, and Gabriel and Sophie Crotts of Kings Mountain; brothers, David Evander Cooper III and partner, Patricia Storie, Steven Wayne Cooper, Christopher Riggan Cooper and wife Kathleen, and Brian Quincy Cooper and wife Toni; and sisters, Heather Cooper Hinson and husband Fred and Star Cooper Smith and husband Eric. The family will receive friends 4:00pm-6:00pm, Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Kings Mountain. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to tealdiva.org (ovarian cancer support network) or windriverservices.org (cancer retreat)
