Bernie "Garrett" Thomas Sr.

KINGS MOUNTAIN- Mr. Bernie Garrett Thomas Sr., 90, of 109 Newport Court died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at White Oak Manor of Kings Mountain. A native of Richmond County, NC, he was a son of the late Vernon Thomas and Corrina Jane Deas Thomas. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and was previously a member of the Walker’s Club. He retired from Clevemont Mills in Kings Mountain. Mr. Thomas served in the Army during WWII.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Beaty Thomas; his stepmother, Effie Thomas; three brothers; and six sisters.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by two sons, Bernie Thomas Jr. and Keith Thomas and wife, Vicki, all of Shelby; a daughter, Linda Allen and husband, Don, of Kings Mountain; a sister, Betty Leonhardt of Gastonia; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Michelle Tolbert and Kevin of Grover, Andrew Allen and Melissa of Cherryville, Toni Allen of Kings Mountain, Phillip Allen and Kelly of Earl, Gerry Andre and Melissa of Kings Mountain, Dana Thomas and Garrett Thomas, both of Charlotte, Wesley Thomas, Seth Thomas and Andrea Thomas, all of Shelby; seven great-grandchildren, Laura Tolbert, Thomas Tolbert, Ashley Allen, Mikayla Allen, Noah Allen, Hannah Allen and Hope Allen; and a sister-in-law, Rachel Thomas.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
LIE-IN-STATE: The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
BURIAL: Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
OFFICIATING CLERGY: Dr. Doug Dickens and Rev. Allen Davis
MEMORIALS: Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
