Betty Mace

February 15, 1925 — September 14, 2016

SHELBY-Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Mace, 91, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at Carolinas HealthCare System-Cleveland. A native of Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late William Charles and Annie Thompson McKinney. She was a charter member of Westview Baptist Church and was the original owner and operator of Betty Jo’s Florist in Shelby.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Mace; three brothers, Dr. William McKinney, Rev. Brown McKinney and Neil McKinney, and infant brother, John Larry Mckinney.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean “BJ” Silver and husband Robert “Butch” of Shelby; one sister, Joann Wilfong and husband Harry of Newton; three brothers, Zeb McKinney and wife Chris of Spruce Pine, Sam McKinney and wife Barbara of New Dale, N.C., James McKinney of Huntersville; two grandchildren, Susan Brown and husband Doug, Jr., Gary Silver and wife Christy; five great-grandchildren, Stephanie Silver, Michael Silver, Stevie Brown, Judson Brown, Josh Peterson; one great-great-grandchild, Grayson Duncan.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at Westview Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Rick Bowling, with a gathering of family and friends after the service in the fellowship hall.

Interment will be held after the friends and family gathering on Saturday at Cleveland Memorial Park.
