SHELBY- Mrs. Betty Jean Cope Smith, 57, of 122 West Double Shoals Road died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006 at home. She was a native of Gaston County and daughter to the late William Edgar and Ollie Mae Bumgardner Cope.

PERSONAL HISTORY: She was a truck driver and retired from Old Dominion Freight Lines. She was a member of Ledford Grove Baptist Church and loved singing gospel music. Her husband and her family were the inspiration and loves of her life.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Bumgardner and Ernest Cope, and a sister, Maggie Rhyne.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Floyd Dean Smith; two sons, Ricky Dean Smith and his wife Tammy of Shelby, and Michael Ross Smith and his wife Renee of Fallston; four daughters, Kathy Smith and husband Marvin of Coldwater, MS, Maggie Dawn Smith, Cheri Denise Smith, and Riki Leigh Smith all of the home, and Pamela Smith of Dallas, NC; a brother, Willis Cope of Denver, CO; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 6-7:30pm, Monday, (Oct. 2nd) at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, and other times at the home.

FUNERAL: 2:00pm, Tuesday, (Oct. 3rd) in the Chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

BURIAL: will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fallston
