SHELBY- Mr. James “Bill” Emery, 77, of 519 Webber Street, died Thursday, October 1, 2009 at home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert and Rose Champion Emery. He was employed with McSwain Grading Company and Kennedy Concrete and was a member of New Bethel Church of Shelby. Mr. Emery was also a lifetime member of the Shelby Rescue Squad. He loved to hunt and fish, loved the beach and spending time with his friends. He loved racing, and was a Jeff Gordon fan.
PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Emery; a son, Jimmy Emery; and a brother, Horace Emery.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by a son, Larry W. Emery and wife, Kay, of Shelby; five grandchildren and their spouses, Megan Emery Lewis and Daniel, of Statesville, Matt Emery and Amy, Chris Emery and Elizabeth, Travis Emery and Misty, Andrew Emery and Tiffany, all of Shelby; eight great-grandchildren, Parker Emery, Gracie Emery, Dyson Lewis, Issac Emery, Allison Emery, Ryan Emery, Bailey Emery and Madison Emery; and special family members, Marilyn Emery of Fallston and Shirley Emery of Shelby. The family would like to extend a special “thank you” to Dr. Gelot and his staff for all of their great care throughout the past two years.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends on Friday, October 2, 2009 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home from 5:30-7:30 pm and other times at the home.
FUNERAL: A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2009, at New Bethel Church of Shelby. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
INTERMENT: Burial will immediately follow in Sunset Cemetery.
CLERGY: The Rev. Reed Jones will be officiating.
