SHELBY- Mr. Bobby Gene Blanton, 74, of 1547 Hilltop Drive, died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Ed and Paola Rippey Blanton. Mr. Blanton worked for the Shelby City Police Department for four years, and at Duke Power as a security officer for twelve years. He was a member of Putnam Baptist Church and served his country in the Army. He enjoyed spending all of his free time with is family. He had a love for golf, racing, and playing pool.

PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by six brothers; George, James, Clyde, Ed Jr. “Doonie”, Charlie, and Fred Blanton; and two sisters Pearl Canipe and Peggy Gardner.

SURVIVORS: He is survived by his wife Jenell England Blanton of the home; son, Dennis Mitchell Blanton and wife Lisa of Shelby; daughter Cheryl Borders of Shelby; sister Barbara Dellinger of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren Leslie Kale and husband Ryan, Mitch Blanton and wife Ashley, and Cody Borders; six great grandchildren, Taylor, Colby, and Sam Kale, Bailey Bridges, Zoë Blanton, and Sylas Blanton.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends, Sunday, Aug. 9, from 6-7:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

SERVICE: Services will be held 11am, Monday, Aug. 9, at Putnam Baptist Church.

INTERMENT:Burial will immediately follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

CLERGY: The Revs. Bryan Glisson and Gary Marburger will be officiating.
