SHELBY- Carl F. Washburn, 79, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at White Oak Manor of Shelby. A native of Cleveland Co., he was the son of the late Waylan T. and Sarah Frances Barnett Washburn. He was an Army veteran, and served a tour of duty in Korea. He was employed by Doran Textiles for 37 years, where he was a weave room supervisor for 20 of those years, and retired from the City of Shelby as a groundskeeper. He was a member of Dover Baptist Church, a former member of Senior Golf Association, and an avid golfer who had a hole in one on No. 8 at City Park, and No. 12 at Pine Grove. He enjoyed southern gospel music and attending singings.
PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Billy G. Washburn and Waylan Tyree Washburn Jr.; sisters, Margaret W. Godfrey, and Patsy W. Allman; and grandson, Ryan Washburn.
SURVIVED: He is survived by his loving wife, Melinda Stroud Washburn, of the home; sons, Jeff Mode of Kings Mountain, Tim Washburn and wife Tina of Mooresboro, and Steve Washburn and wife Kelly of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Nick Washburn and wife Jessica, Natasha Coan and husband Dennis, Kaitlyn Miller and husband Jered, Evan Washburn, Ethan Washburn, Landon Washburn, and Adam Beason; great-grandchildren, Addie McMurry, Jack and Jared Washburn; sister, Erlene W. Greene and husband Roy Sr., ; brothers, Charles Washburn and wife Sue, Troy Washburn and wife Trudy, and John Washburn and wife Brenda.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends 4-5:30pm, Sunday, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home
FUNERAL SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 2pm, Monday, at Dover Baptist Church
OFFICIATING: Dr. B. Ervin Price will officiate
BURIAL: will be in Cleveland Memorial Park immediately following the service, with military honor’s
