Charles Walker

SHELBY: Charles “Steve” Walker, 74, died Friday, September 8, 2023 at Atrium Health Cleveland. Born in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late William and Ruby-Mae Bright Walker. Steve served in the Navy and was in the Vietnam War. He work in law enforcement with the towns of Grover and Boiling Springs and later served as a police officer with the Charlotte International Airport. He later retired in maintenance from Azdell. He was a patriotic man who was proud to be a U.S. Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Cogdell. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donnis Turner Walker of the home; sons, Steven Walker Jr. and wife Nikki and Gene Walker; daughter, Sareena Hullender and husband Wesley; sisters, Janice Cartee and Lisa Brown; brothers, Ronnie Walker and John Walker and wife Janet, all of Shelby; grandchildren, Dylan Walker, Katelyn Walker, Alissa Martin and husband Alex, Trustian Walker, Dale Walker and Andy Walker; great-grandchildren, Liberty, Hunter and Blakelyn Hullender; and his mother-in-law, Pauline Turner of Shelby. The family will receive friends 6:00-7:30 P.M. Monday, September 11, 2023 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
