SHELBY- Mr. Charles Edward Smith, 60, of 2307 Berwick Drive, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Romey and Betty Jean Tate Smith and was an insurance agent with Western-Southern Life Insurance Company. He was of the Baptist faith and served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Smith loved the outdoors, camping and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: He was preceded in death by his parents.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his wife, Racheal D. Parker Smith of the home; a daughter, Jennifer Leigh Mayes and husband, Lucas, of Shelby; four brothers, John A. Smith and wife Renee and Stanley Bonin, all of Mooresboro, Richard D. Smith and wife, Miriam and David J. Smith and wife Lydia, all of Polkville; three grandchildren, Luke Mayes, Katie Mayes and Zachary Mayes; and a number of special cousins, nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Thursday, June 7, 2007 from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 8, 2007 at Dover Baptist Church.
LIE-IN-STATE: The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
BURIAL: Burial will follow in Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.
