SHELBY- Mr. Charles Lee Roy, 72, of 918 W. Cabaniss Rd., departed this life Monday, September 17, 2007 at home. A native of Henry County, Virginia, Charles was born April 20th, 1935 to the late Charlie & Lena Wade Roy. Charles received his early education in the Henry County, Va., Public Schools and finished his education in New York Public Schools. He also attended Cleveland Community College. He retired as a supervisor from New York Transit Authority and relocated to North Carolina in 1992. He was a Mason and Shriner, was a very active volunteer with the Red Cross, a member of the YMCA and loved to travel
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to his parents, one son preceded him in death, Charles Jason Roy and a brother Norman Roy.
SURVIVORS: He met and married Doris Hewitt on March 19, 1960 and from this union had 5 children. He left to cherish his memory, the mother of his children, Doris Hewitt Roy of Shelby; two sons, Ricky R. Roy of Brooklyn, NY and Anthony Mcghee of Troy,NY; three daughters, Pamela Watkins, and husband, Tyrone of Brooklyn, NY and Keturah Z. & Naaweth Roy, both of Gastonia; two grandchildren, Elijah T. Littlejohn and wife, Brandi, of Fayetteville, NC and Yasmine T. Littlejohn, of Japan; a great-grandchild, Elijah T. Littlejohn II; two sisters, Mary Bolling of Durham and Mercelene Smith and husband, Melvin of Shelby; a brother, George Roy of Brooklyn, NY; four aunts all of Virginia; a sister-in-law, Lily Roy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2007 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Private burial will be held in the family cemetery located in Virginia.
