Charlotte Low

July 21, 1934 — August 16, 2024

SHELBY, NC: Charlotte Venable Low,90, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024 at home. She was born on July 21, 1934 in Rustburg, VA to the late George and Blanche Venable. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Aubrey Venable and her husband of 32 years, Robert (Bob) Low. She is survived by her brother, Bruce Venable of Cincinnati, OH; daughters, Bobbie Huntsinger of Shelby, NC and Joy Axelsson and husband Richard of Shelby, NC; and five grandchildren, Gabe Huntsinger, Nate Huntsinger, Esther Axelsson, Samuel Axelsson and Hannah Axelsson.

She grew up in Rustburg, Virginia (just outside Lynchburg), a farmer and preacher’s third child and only daughter. Being born in the middle of the depression, she highly valued having a farm and growing her own food. She loved canning, especially green beans! After graduating High School, she attended Mars Hill University, Florida State and Southwestern Seminary. She met Bob Low, her future husband on a blind date, set up by mutual friends and got married on Nov 24, 1962 at 28 years old (in her words, an old maid!). In the beginning, the couple lived in Florida. They loved camping, hiking and building stuff together. Later they moved to Whitakers, NC where their daughter, Bobbie was born and then in 1967 moved to Shelby, NC where their daughter, Joy was born. Charlotte lived in Shelby, NC for the rest of her life. She loved to travel and was able to visit her daughter Joy in Malaysia and Sweden several times. She traveled to Montana, USA and Stockholm, Sweden for the births of all her five grandchildren.

Charlotte wore many hats through the years; mom, wife, grandma, and youth pastor. She also worked for the Department of Social Services of Cleveland County and was the pastor of Glory Center Church for ten years. She wanted people of all ages to know God and His word. This was her passion in life. Sor so many people. She highly valued prayer. We, her family, and this community will be greatly missed. She spent many hours reading, studying and learning about the Bible. She also valued people, taking time to listen, advise, and counsel others. She was a very wise woman. She prayed faithfully every day for her family and friends!!!
