Dale Mcmurray

September 16, 1949 — January 13, 2022

Palmer Dale McMurray, of Myrtle Beach, SC, died Thursday, January 13, 2022, at McLeold Health Seacoast Hospital in Little River, SC, at the age of 72. A native of Shelby, he was the son of the late Joe Palmer McMurry Jr. and Sarah Margaret Humphries McMurry.
For years he worked for Earl Owensby first at Carolina Pneumatic and later at EO Studies where he was roped in occasionally as an extra. In 1986 he opened D & M Sales, which he ran until his retirement. He never met a stranger, loved the beach, fast cars, his dogs, and volunteering for the American Red Cross. In his younger days he was an avid cyclist who biked to the top of Mount Mitchell and up the North Carolina coast with his wife of 49 years, Norma. He was a marathon runner and loved a long walk to nowhere with friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Heather; son-in-law, Chris Watson; step-grandsons, Holden and Archer; his sister, Phyllis McMurry Tate (John); nephew, Adam McMurry Tate (Joni); niece, Emily McMurry Tate Frank (Ian); two great-nephews, and a great-niece.
A memorial will be held at Clay-Barnett Funeral Home in Shelby at 2:00, Saturday, January 29, 2022. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
