SHELBY- Mrs. Doris Mae Byers, 91, of 110 Philbeck Street, died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Hospice at Wendover. She was a native of Cleveland County, daughter to the late William Sylvester and Oma Holland Jones. She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker, was formerly employed by J.C. Penney Co. and J&C Dying, and was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Paul Hamrick, O.T. Aldridge, and Gilmore Byers.; three brothers, Vance, Paul, and Edward Jones; five sisters, Selma Melton, Hazel Rudisill, Corrine Gold, Carolyn Bumgardner, and Oris Lipscomb.
She is survived by three sons, Jerry Roger Hamrick and his wife Mary; Sherrill Dean Hamrick and his wife Linda, and Lanny Scott Hamrick, all of Shelby; one daughter, Loretta H. Allen and her husband, Eugene of Shelby; a sister, Eunice Randall of Forest City; eight grandchildren, Sandra Brittain and her husband Brad, Carla Canipe and her husband Jeff, Tim Carter and his wife Sharon, Trevor Carter and his wife Tammy, Jeff Hamrick, Paula Hamrick, Susan Smith and her husband Ryan, and Sharon Puckett and her husband Joey; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchilden; and many nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: from 6-7:30 pm Tuesday (8/5), at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Jerry and Mary Hamrick, 1311 Lackey Street, Shelby..
FUNERAL: 2:00pm Wednesday (8/6), at Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
INTERMENT: will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park
