Dorothy Allen

August 8, 1924 — July 1, 2007

SHELBY- Mrs. Dorothy Dixon Allen, 82, of 1404 Wesson Rd., died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Lexington Health Care Center. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Enos Labon and Mary Melinda Ross-Dixon. She was retired from the textile industry. As a member of Westwood Heights Baptist Church, Mrs. Allen was a strong and dedicated Christian, who loved her church and loved to sing in the choir. She was a wonderful seamstress, an avid reader, cook and baker, as well as an advocate for her family.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eli “Frank” Allen, two sisters, three brothers and a great grandchild.

SURVIVORS: She is survived by four daughters, Mary Henderson and husband, Stephen, of Thomasville, Frances Earwood and husband, Joe, of Shelby, Kay Cloninger and husband E. Scott, of Kings Mountain, Barbara Hovis and husband, Heath, of Newport; a sister, Mary Ellen Wilson and husband, Loren C. of Houston, Texas; a brother, Enos Dixon and wife, Faye, of Shelby; ten grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Mrs. Allen’s caregivers over the years.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends from to 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Westwood Heights Baptist Church and other times at the home.

FUNERAL: The funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Westwood Heights Baptist Church with the Revs. David Costner and Jimmy Black officiating.

BURIAL: Cleveland Memorial Park
