Doug Hull

SHELBY: Wayne “Doug” Douglas Hull, 64, passed from his temporal life to eternal life on Friday, April 7, 2023. Born on May 14, 1958, he was the son of the late Eugene and Ruth Porter Hull. Doug was a Shelby native and a Shelby High School graduate. He was best known as Athletic Programs Supervisor for Shelby Park and Recreation, where he clocked 36 physical years and implemented several way for better parent-park relations. Many times and situations found him as a great mediator when he worked. He was serious about his job, whether it be for the park or for his church. He was a great friend to many, and a great husband, father, grandfather and relative to others. He was a member of Bethel Baptist where he served as deacon. Doug was faithful to attend until his failing health ceased to allow him to go. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his brothers, Johnny and Ronald Hull; and sister, Elizabeth Granger. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Tina Mode Hull of the home; son, Nathan Hull of Shelby; daughter, Nicole Newton and husband Marty of Casar; grandchildren, Shalla Haynes, Makayla Newton, Taylor Hull, Marissa Hull and Emma Newton; mother-in-law, Ann Mode of Shelby; and his K-9 companion, Oakley. Funeral services will be held 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, April12, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tim Sims officiating. The family will receive friends 5-6:30 P.M., prior to the service, in the church. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. Thursday. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.
