Ella Mcneill Burrus

Ella McNeill Jenkins Burrus, 83, of 507 Woodside Dr. passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at Carolinas Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Rev. James L. Jenkins and Kate Watson Jenkins. In addition to her parents, her husband of 56 years, Dr. Roy G. Burrus, Jr. and her brother Jay Jenkins of Raleigh preceded her in death.
Mrs. Burrus, a charter member of Westview Baptist Church, faithfully served as organist for Westview for over 30 years and was an excellent homemaker. A longtime member of the Cecilia Music Club, she also taught music in the public schools.
She is survived by three sons: Roy G. Burrus, III, of the home, Bob Burrus of Shelby, and Tom Burrus and wife Ann of Carrboro; sisters: Betty Washburn and husband Gene of Boiling Springs, and Cathy Vosecky and husband Gene of Cullowhee. Four loving grandchildren, Michael and Kelly of Carrboro, along with Charlie and Sam of Shelby, also survive her. Mrs. Burrus leaves fond memories for her family and friends.
The receiving of friends will be from 6:30 to 8 pm Thursday night at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home. The funeral will be at 2 pm at Westview Baptist Church on Friday, with Tracey Jessup presiding. A private burial will be held at Sandy Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
