SHELBY- Mrs. Elma Dycus Hammond, 89, of 2927 Lake Dr., former resident of Asheville, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Summit Place Assisted Living in Kings Mountain. A native of York County, SC, she was a daughter of the late A.C. Hudson and Emma Dominey Hudson. She retired as a unit clerk at Memorial Mission Hospital and was a member of Dover Baptist Church.
PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Rev. Harry Dycus and Charles Hammond, her brothers, Palmer Hudson and Gene Hudson and a sister, Marie Wilson.
SURVIVORS: She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Raye Dycus Horn and husband, Rev. Richard of Kannapolis and Patricia Faye Bragg and husband, Rev. Herschel, of Ellisville, Miss.; a son, Harry M. “Sonny” Dycus Jr. of Atlanta; a stepdaughter, Debra Hunter of Greenville, SC; a stepson, Dudley Hammond of Louisville, KY; a sister, Margaret Kennedy Deaton of Shelby; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Asheville.
