SHELBY: G.M. “Butch” Wacaster, 77, died Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Glavis and Gladys Heafner Wacaster. Butch was a lifelong member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years. He retired from Lance Inc. after 36 years, where he was affectionately known as the “Cracker Man”. Butch loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed traveling to New Smyrna Beach, FL with his wife. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Wacaster; and sister, Jeanette Willis. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley Rogers Wacaster of the home; sons, Randy Wacaster and wife Lyn of Fort Mill, SC and Brian Wacaster and wife Julie of Rock Hill, SC; and grandchildren, Jacob Wacaster and wife Shelby, Kelsie Wacaster, Allie Wacaster and Avery Wacaster. Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. Sunday, June 9, 2024 at Flint Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Shane Kirby and Rev. Keith Dixon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, in the church, and other times at the home. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Flint Hill Baptist Church or Hospice of Cleveland County. Funeral services are entrusted to Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and Aquamation Center.
