Gene Bridges Jr.

SHELBY: Gene “Static” Bridges Jr., 62, died Friday, January 1, 2021, at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Clarence Gene Bridges Sr. and Margaret Patterson Bridges. Gene worked in the tree industry for more than 40 years, where he served on numerous committees within the industry. He was an avid race fan of any kind, enjoyed riding his motorcycle, and had a love for spending time with his grandkids and at his beach house. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #744. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Bridges. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Carolyn Falls Bridges, of the home; daughters, Kimberly Bridges and Kristin Summer and husband Shane; son, Kyle Bridges, all of Shelby; sister, Frances Burnham and husband Denny; brothers, Eddie Bridges and wife Cindy and David Bridges, all of Shelby; and grandchildren, Bailey Bridges, Rylee Summer, Mattie Abernathy, Gavin Stelma, Brock Abernathy and Allie Summer. A private celebration of Gene’s life will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
