Gene Philbeck

SHELBY: Garis “Gene” Philbeck, 71, died Saturday, December 25, 2021 at Atrium Health Main in Charlotte. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Arnold and Madge Philbeck. He loved old cars, drag racing, going to the mountains and his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Buford, JC and Jim Philbeck; and sister, Marie Sanders. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Della Bridges Philbeck of the home; daughters, Angie Cathey and husband Allen and Christy Bridges and husband Justin; son, Rodney Philbeck, all of Shelby; sister, Gert Knox of Grover; brother, G.C. Philbeck of Kings Mountain; his mother-in-law, Hazel Keeter of Shelby; five grandchildren; and one great grandchild on the way. Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Stroup officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00PM, prior to the service, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Grover Cemetery.
