Gilbert Greene

SHELBY: Gilbert F. Greene, 88, died Sunday, May 26, 2024 at CaroMont Health in Gastonia. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Emmett and Euzele Petty Greene. Gilbert graduated from Lattimore High School, where he was part of the county wide basketball championship. He worked as a machinist for 10 years with Seaboard Railroad and later retired after 35 years of service with Dixie Industrial. He was a faithful and lifelong member of Westview Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and in numerous other capacities of the church. He had the opportunity to serve as a missionary 14 times in Honduras. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Jean Hartley Greene; son, Barry Greene; brothers, Joel and Billy Steve Greene; sister, Geraldine Kepley; and brother-in-law, Ron Ivie. He is survived by his son, Ronnie Greene and wife Charlene of Shelby; Vickie Yount and husband Bill of Bostic; sister, Barbara Ivie of Shelby; brother, Carl Greene and wife Wanda of Shelby; grandchildren, Katie Aimino, Ashley Beason and husband Matthew, Tony Izzi IV and Michelle Pichardo and husband Josh; great grandchildren, Rylee, Barry, Mayer and Izzi; and brothers-in-law, Darius Kepley and Mike Harley and wife Linda. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, May 31, 2024 at Westview Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Rick Bowling officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, in the church. Burial will follow in the service in Sunset Cemetery.
