Gladys Summers

SHELBY- Mrs. Gladys Frances Stiles Summers, 99, of 934 West Warren Street, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2008, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Teegarden, Indiana, to Delbert and Grace Barber Stiles, married Charles Oland Edward Summers, and bore one son, Charles Oland, Jr., who gave them three grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann, Jean Maria, and Stephen Charles Summers.

She was a member of Shelby Second and Boiling Springs Baptist Churches, alternately, depending upon her place of residence. She taught Sunday School classes for more than 50 years and was a church pianist. Other volunteer work included serving as PTA president, her local hospital, delivering Meals on Wheels, and organizing and playing piano for sing-alongs at several nursing facilities and for the Cleveland County Senior Center Sing-for-fun.

She was employed as secretary at her home church in South Bend, Indiana, then the local Senior Center as bookkeeper for several years each.

Her parents and husband preceded her in death. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Oland and Joyce Summers of Shelby; grandchildren, Beth and Dale Heffner of Rutherfordton, Jeannie Tillman of Forest City, and Stephen and Amy Summers of Arden; great grandchildren, Aimee and Michael Blade of La Vista, Nebraska, Adam and Tarin Heffner of Rutherfordton, Alex and Katie Tillman of Forest City, and Aaron, Rachel and Philip Summers of Arden; and a great-great grandchild, Makayla Blade of La Vista, Nebraska.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends at Second Baptist Church from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2008.

FUNERAL: The funeral will follow at Second Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday with Dr. Reginald Dawkins and Dr. Stephen Summers officiating.

BURIAL: A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2008 at Tyner Cemetery in Tyner, Indiana.
