RALEIGH - Dr. Gwendolyn Victoria Clay died on Monday, March 27, 2006 in
Raleigh.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Longview Center in Raleigh.
VISITATION: The family will receive visitors immediately following the
service in the 1880 Reception Hall of the Longview Center.
PERSONAL HISTORY: Born in Greensboro, Dr. Clay was the daughter of
Elizabeth Hargrove Clay of Jamestown and the late William Fletcher Clay.
She earned a B.S. degree from NC State University, a M.Ed. degree from
UNC-Greensboro, and a Ph. D. from NC State University. She taught in the
Department of Education at Meredith College and later served as department
head. In her final years at Meredith, she was a professor in the
Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences.
SURVIVORS: In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brother,
Colonel William Fletcher Clay; her sister-in-law and friend, Dana Jackson
Clay; and her adored niece and nephews, Hanna, Clint and Zachary Clay;
aunts and uncles, Louise Powell of Greensboro, Loraine Arey and Bob and
George W. Clay, Jr. and Frances, all of Shelby; and many cousins, all of
whom she loved dearly.
