Shelby- Mr. Halbert Leroy Burns, Jr., 61, of 1905 Robyn Ave. died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Red Springs (Roberson Co.), NC son to the late Halbert L. Sr. and Madeline Odem Burns. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He was a Sales Rep for U.S. Foodservice and was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine B, Fly.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dinese Williams Burns of the home; two sons, SPC Michael David Burns, U.S. Army, currently serving in Korea and Christopher Ryan Burns of the home; a sister, Mary Norton of Canton, NC; a brother-in-law, Claude Fly of Columbia, TN; brothers and sisters-in-law, Debbie Wiiliams of Lawndale, Willie and Lynn Williams of Kings Mtn., Ronnie and Kathy Wiliams of Shelby, Tina Williams of Shelby, and John and Teresa Robinson of Kure Beach, NC; a mother and father-inlaw, Thurman and Doris Williams of Shelby; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-7:30pm at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
The funeral service wil be held Thursday at 2:00pm at Landmark Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Davis officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
