Hal J. Hastings Sr.

February 7, 1924 — March 20, 2015

SHELBY-Mr. Hal J. Hastings Sr., 91, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015, at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Martin Zero and Cleo Hanes Hastings. Hal served in the US Army during WWII European Campaign, and was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart.

PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty McGinnis Hastings; brothers, Fred and Ralph Hastings; sisters, Daisy Peters, Grace Kaylor, Gazzie Mode, Sue Frances, Ethel McSwain, and Macie Mull.

SURVIVED: He is survived by his son, Hal “Jimmy” Hastings Jr.; daughter, Faye Gregory, both of Shelby; grandchildren, Scott Gregory, Cylee Hastings, Bobbie Jo Newton and husband Jason; great-grandchildren, Vincent, Solomon and Rowdy Irvin, and Taylor E. Newton; step- great-granddaughter, Cassie Young.
