Hal Heafner

February 27, 1932 — November 28, 2022

SHELBY: Hal Lee Heafner, 90, died Monday, November 28, 2022 at his home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late William and Viola Powell Heafner. Hal served in the U.S. Army, was a member of Union Baptist Church and retired from Overnite Transportation Company after 25 years of service. He enjoyed fishing with others and had a talent for woodworking. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Rebecca “Becky” Clayton Heafner; sisters, Mildred Wilson and Ruby Grigg; brother, A.V. Heafner; and granddaughter, Stephanie Heafner. He is survived by his son, Alex Heafner and wife Susan of Lake Lure; daughters, Jill Heafner of Lawndale, Tina Greene and husband Gary of Shelby, and Shannon Tomlin and husband Dewey of Lawndale; and grandchildren, Dallas Tomlin, Matthew Tomlin, Elizabeth Heafner, and Samuel Heafner. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm, Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Alex Heafner and Rev. Ralph Clayton Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
