SHELBY- Mr. Hugh Lee Mode, 79, of 1603 N. Oak Drive, died Friday, November 28, 2008 at Hospice at Wendover. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Clarence and Elgie Sain Mode. He was retired from Carolina Freight, where he was known by his handle name “High Pocket”, after 33 years of service. He was a member of Mulls Memorial Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Air Force.
PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to his parents, two brothers, Clarence and Wilburn Mode preceded him in death.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rachel Crowder Mode of the home; three sons, Donald Lee Mode and wife, Eileen of Texas, Ronald Mode and wife, Edna, and Don Mode, all of Shelby; a sister, Edith White, of Shelby; five grandchildren, Rhonda Jackson and husband, Greg of Kings Mountain, Hugh Mode of Mt. Olive, Bobbi Mode of Cherryville, Lee Sexton of Dalton, GA, and Cameron Mode of Arlington, Texas; twelve great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2008 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Burial will immediately follow in Sunset Cemetery.
