SHELBY- Mr. Jack Floyd, 83, of 509 Circle Dr. E., Shelby, died Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
PERSONAL HISTORY: A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Rufus Marion Floyd and Affie Haynes Floyd. He worked at Bost Bakery and was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, where he enjoyed working as the custodian and singing in gospel quartets.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Ezell, Hoyt, Weldon, Nathan, and Colon Floyd, a sister, Pauline Shuford, and a great grandson, Eli Floyd.
SURVIVORS: Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife, Kate Palmer Floyd of the home; a son, Gary Floyd and wife, Sue; a daughter, Jeanette Gibson and husband, Leonard, all of Shelby; five grandchildren, Jason Floyd and wife, Lynne, Julie Crotts and husband, Scott, Jimmy Gibson and wife, Sherry, Matthew Gibson and wife, Sabrina, all of Shelby, and David Gibson and wife, Windy, of Cherryville; six great grandchildren, Jada Hayes, Mason Crotts, Allen Crotts, Ethan Floyd, Kirstin Gibson and Jeremy Gibson; several nieces and nephews and a special caregiver, Debra Poston of Shelby.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Sue Floyd, 1692 Crestland Dr., Shelby.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church.
LIE-IN-STATE: The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
BURIAL: Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
OFFICIATING CLERGY: The Revs. Owen Peeler, Warren Shuford and Ronnie King.
