James Caldwell

SHELBY: James Alfred Caldwell, 63, died Monday, February 21, 2022. A native of Cleveland County, he is the son of Alice Whitenburg Caldwell of Shelby and the late Fred Caldwell. Alfred was a member of Fairview AME Zion Church in Earl and attended Black Rock Baptist Church in Chester, SC. He served in the army and retired from Mack Trucks. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by the mother of his two daughters, Anita Sims. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Caldwell; daughters, Jasmine Smith and husband Ryan and Jessica Chambers and husband Taqualin, both of Shelby, Sheka Houston and husband Jerry of Chester, SC and Neeka Grafton of Mint Hill; brother, Alvin Leroy Caldwell and wife Clara of Shelby; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Isabella Houston; and special friend, Gary Raper of Shelby. Funeral services will be held privately to the family.
