BLACKSBURG, SC. - Mr. James Boyd Gilliam, 77, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Kings Mountain Hospice House. A native of Cherokee County, SC., he was the son of the late Boyd and Ruth Whisnant Gilliam. He worked for many years at Minnette Mills in Grover, as a textile worker. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing with friends, and spending time with his family.
PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Devair Pruitt; two brothers, Calvin and Walter Gilliam; sister, Cathy Gilliam; and two former wives, Ruth Connor Gilliam, and Shelia Green Gilliam.
SURVIVED: He is survived by two daughters, Renee Bost and husband Patton of Kings Mountain, and Lynn Hudson and husband Michael of Shelby; three sons, Norris Gilliam of Shelby, Brian Gilliam of Blacksburg, SC., and Chris Green of Shelby; three sisters, Virginia Monahan of Hendersonville, Betty Ann Bowen of Grover, and June Tinsley husband Doug of Hendersonville; five brothers, Marvin Gilliam and Johnny Gilliam of Blackwater, VA., Jerry Gilliam and wife Jeanie of Waco, Steve Gilliam and wife Brenda of GA, and William Lee Gilliam and wife Linda of Blacksburg, SC.; 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as his great friends Paul and Joyce Walker and their daughter Shannon, Harvey and Evelyn Peterson, Allen “Red” Herndon, Dinky and Sherry Rose.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held 6 p.m., Friday, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Kings Mountain.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Friday, 4:30-6 p.m., at the funeral home, and other times at the home of his daughter, Renee, 131 Wright Rd., Kings Mountain.
