SHELBY, NC: Jenny Dennis passed away on September 8th, 2024 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born on November 13, 1937 to Melvin and Annabelle Cash in Braselton, Georgia. She was one of eleven children and grew up in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. She attended Bethware School from first grade through high school graduation, after which she attended Gardner Webb University and earned an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts.
After college graduation, Jenny moved to the Washington, D.C. area where she worked at the Baptist Home for Children. While attending a local church there, she met Laurence Ryan, whom she married in 1960, and they raised three children together in the suburbs of Maryland.
Jenny worked as a bakery manager for Giant Food Stores in Maryland, before retiring after 25 years back to her roots in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Always a lover of music, Jenny played the guitar and sang, frequently entertaining friends and family at school reunions, family get together, and winning the First-Place prize for her talent at the Cleveland County Fair in 2001. With her big, fun loving and out-going personality, Jenny garnered many friends and acquaintances over the years.
Jenny leaves behind to cherish her memory two children, Kimberly Ryan and Neil Ryan (Amy); daughter-in-law, Rosalie Ryan; six grandchildren, Megan Werner (Eric), Matthew Wieser, Jessica Ryan (Mo), Jannah Nguyen (Duy), Lauren Ryan, Anna Ryan; and two brothers, Paul Cash (Rhonda) and Kenneth Cash (Robin). Her husband of 13 years, Sonny Dennis, preceded her in death in 2017. A beloved son, Paul Ryan, passed away in 2018.
A celebration of life for Jenny will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Taylor and Paul Cash officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family invites all friends and family to attend a graveside prayer at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Kings Mountain immediately following the service.
