SHELBY- Jerry "Don" Gibson, a lifelong resident of Shelby, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at Peak Resources on March 25, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on May 14, 1947, Don was known for his unwavering spirit and dedication to his family and work.
Don spent over three decades working diligently at Kennedy Concrete & Utilities, where he built not only strong structures but also strong relationships with those he worked alongside. He took immense pride in his career as a construction worker, a testament to his tireless work ethic and commitment to providing for his family.
A true lover of nature, Don found joy and tranquility in the great outdoors. He spent countless hours hunting and fishing, activities that were more than just hobbies—they were his passions. His most cherished moments were those spent hunting and fishing with his dear friends Doyle and Tom. Don's knowledge and appreciation of the outdoors were unparalleled, and he loved sharing this part of his life with others.
In his youth, Don took pride in his prowess as a boxer in high school, fondly recalling those days when he showcased his strength and agility. His favorite saying, "I'm 120 lbs of twisted steel & sex appeal," was a humorous reflection of his vibrant personality and zest for life.
Don was also a devoted father, always ensuring his children knew they were loved and supported. He was preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Huffstickler; his father, Hershell Odell Gibson; his brother, Ronald Phillip Gibson; his son, Shane Arlen Gibson; and a very special friend, Faye Sisk.
He is survived by his loving children, son Jerry Gibson, daughters Tina Gibson and Trisha Gibson, and sister Vickie Vann. Don's legacy is one of love, loyalty, and a deep connection to the natural world around him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
