SHELBY- Mr. Jerry Huston Watkins, 73, of 518 Shuford Drive, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was a native of Cleveland County, son to the late Joe and Hester Mauney Watkins. Jerry was a loving father and grandfather, and was eager to meet and make new friends. He was a member of Shelby Missionary Methodist Church, was formerly employed at Fiber Industries, and retired from Shelby Auto Parts. He enjoyed NASCAR, playing softball, throwing horseshoes, fishing, and just being outdoors.
PRECEDED IN DEATH: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Jean Green Watkins, a son, Jerry Glenn Watkins, and a sister, Margaret W. Champion..
SURVIVORS: One daughter, Lynn W. Hudson and her husband Michael of the home; six sons, Roger Dale Watkins of Shelby, James Dean Watkins and his wife Allison of Mooresboro, Ronald Alan Watkins of Shelby, Donald Jason Bell, of Shelby, Christopher Green of Bessemer City, Brian Gilliam of Blacksburg; two brothers, Tommy Watkins and his wife Judy of Grover, and Ted Watkins of Shelby; one sister, Jeanette Jones and her husband James of Shelby; nine grandchildren, Tyler, Destiny, Elizabeth, Brittany, Missy, Jamie, Jessica, Jamie and Drake; and two great-grandsons, Thomas and Jayson.
VISITATION: from 6-7:30 pm Tuesday (9/2), at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: 11:00am Wednesday (9/3), in the Clay-Barnette Chapel
INTERMENT: Sunset Cemetery
