SHELBY- Mr. Jerry A. “JJ” Johnson, 59, of 412 S. Thompson St., went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He’s running on streets of gold, now. He was a gentle and loving husband to his wife, Ann. He was the very best father his daughters Dawn and Jessica could have had. He was an awesome grandfather to his nine grandchildren. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Erastus and Irene Canipe Johnson. Jerry was employed with Bost Bakery from 1970 until they closed and retired from Sunbeam Bakery. Jerry served in Korea and Germany with the U.S. Army and was a member of Shelby Missionary Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Quentin Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Ann Turner Johnson of the home; two daughters, Dawn Newland and husband, Tim of Stanley and Jessica Searcy and husband, Michael, of Shelby; two sisters, Clara Johnson of Charlotte and Marie Odom of Shelby; two brothers, Earnest Johnson and wife, Peggy of Kings Mountain, and Kenneth Johnson and wife, Virginia, of Shelby; and nine grandchildren, Taylor and Jason Ledbetter, Laura and Devon Harrison, and Amber and Jordan Searcy, all of Shelby, Garrett Newland of Stanley, and Kevin and Rachel Newland, both of Gastonia.
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Friday, August 31, 2007 from 6:30 until 8:00 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
FUNERAL: The funeral will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 1, 2007, at Shelby Missionary Methodist Church.
LIE-IN-STATE: The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
BURIAL: Interment will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
