S. Joan Mcgaha Lovelace

LEICESTER: S. Joan McGaha Lovelace, of Leicester, NC went to her heavenly place Friday, August 18, 2023, at Mission Hospital. Joan was born December 30, 1931, in Gaston County. She attended Shelby High School and Virginia Altamont. She was a talented painter, an avid photographer, and in her later years loved to sit on her front porch and color intricate pages. She used her love of photography to make many Christmas gifts using her photos of family. Joan worked for Brooks-Howell for many years, retiring from the Social Services office. She couldn’t stay retired long, so she went back to work at Brooks-Howell to serve at the front desk for years. She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Oma McGaha; husband, Carl Ray Lovelace; and oldest daughter Anita Moody. She leaves behind her loving children, Angela Moore of the home, Michael Lovelace and wife Elaine of Leicester, and Jessica Broadhurst and husband Rick of Weaverville. Services will be held at 2:00PM, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Cleveland Memorial Park Mausoleum. Flowers and condolences may be sent to Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Shelby, NC.
