Joan Williams

SHELBY: Joan Woodard Williams, 51, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday May 13, 2021 at Atrium Health Cleveland. She was born on October 8, 1969 in Mecklenburg County, to the late Luther Ward Woodard and Dorothy “Dot” May Howard Woodard.
Joan was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church where she sung in the choir. She was outgoing, creative, and incredibly empathetic. She had a memorable personality and a unique style of her own. Joan loved children and worked as a nanny, a preschool teacher, and an infant room teacher at several daycare centers. She was also a CNA for Atrium Health.
She was dearly loved as a wonderful wife, mother, MiMi, daughter, sister, and friend, and her kind spirit will be missed by many. In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her nephew, Justin Woodard, and her brother Luther Howard Woodard. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 33 years, Kevin Mitchell Williams; her three children, Shannon Williams Hobbs and son-in-Love TJ of Lenoir, NC, Stephanie Michelle Williams of Hilton Head, SC, and Steven Mitchell Williams of Shelby, NC; her 7 grandchildren, Jamison Thwaites, Hunter Hobbs, Tarver Hobbs, Cannon Chisolm, Annabella “Bella” Williams, Adelaine “Lainey” Hobbs, and Knox Williams; her brothers, Samuel “Sandy” Woodard (Donna), and Fredderick “Freddie” Woodard both of Gastonia; nephews, Chad Woodard (Amy), Brandon Woodard, Jeremy Woodard, and Joshua Woodard, and niece Jennifer Woodard. Funeral services will be held 1pm, Monday, May 17, 2021 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30-1pm, prior to the service, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.
