Joe Dean Toney

SHELBY- Joe Dean Toney, 82, died Thurs., Dec. 1, 2016, at Carolinas Healthcare System-Cleveland. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Rainey Waters Toney. He served in the Army and was a member of Race Path Baptist Church.

PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann Toney; brothers, Gilbert, Ervin, and Cecil Toney; and sisters, Leatrice Hennessee, and Elizabeth and Valerie Toney.

SURVIVED: He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Talbort Toney, of the home; daughters, Gail Toney of Waco, Kay Bowen and husband Randy, and Cynthia Collins and husband Jeff, all of Shelby; step-sons, David Champion and wife Phyliss of Shelby, and Fred Lee Champion of Wilmington; Step-daughter, Laura Tallent of Shelby; grandchildren, Casey, Cameron, and Christopher Woods, Logan Morrison and husband Robert, Andrew and Seth Bowen, Mallory Collins, Heather Ledbetter and husband Taylor, and Jennifer and Wesley Tallent.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends Saturday, 1:30-3pm, at the funeral home.

FUNERAL SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Saturday, 3pm, at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel

OFFICIATING: Rev. Tim Trexler and Dr. J. Barry Goodman will officiate

BURIAL: will follow in Sunset Cemetery
