SHELBY-Joe Lane Whisnant, 87, of Stroud Rd., died Sat., Sept. 13, 2014, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Spurgeon and Lucille Wright Whisnant. He retired from Durham Life after 35 years of service. Joe was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school, and was a scout leader.
PRECEDED: In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Terry Whisnant, and his wife Sharon; brothers, Charles, Denny, Bob, and Gene Whisnant; sister, Elizabeth Whisnant.
SURVIVED: He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Johnson Whisnant; sons, Joe Lane Whisnant Jr. and wife Marilyn of Greensboro, Larry Whisnant of Polkville, and Johnny Dean Whisnant and wife Dianne of Shelby; grandchildren, Marc, Tommy, and Ronnie Whisnant, Haley Morrow, Jeremy, Morgan, and Shannon Marie Whisnant, and Nick Anderson; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Nancy Whisnant of Greensboro and Mary Whisnant of Polkville.
GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Tuesday, 11a.m., at Polkville United Methodist Church Cemetery
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Monday, 6-7:30p.m., at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home
