SHELBY— John Eric Rhom, 59, of Pleasant Drive, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of McDowell County, he was born Nov. 8, 1954, son of the late Donald Franklin and Betsy Carrigan Rhom. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where he was a member of the Gateway Sunday school Class and Shelby Rescue Squad. He is also a member of #744 Masonic Lodge and former member of Shanghai volunteer fire department and Boiling Springs City Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Penny Hayes Rhom of the home; one son, Erich Thomas Rhom and wife Leslie of Shelby; one daughter, Syndi Hamrick of Ellenboro; two sisters, Susan Guffey and husband Mitchell and Heather Huskey both of Shelby; five grandchildren, Alexander Cameron Rhom, Jacob Forrest Rhom, Isaac Holden Rhom, Johnathon Phillip Hamrick, and Allison Elizabeth Hamrick; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends after the service as everyone exits.
Funeral Service: 6 p.m., Wednesday, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Officiated By: Rev. Tim Trexler
Burial: will be in the church cemetery 10 a.m., Thursday morning.
Funeral Home: Clay-Barnette Funeral Home of Shelby is serving the family.
